Collins Law, LLC, an Alabama personal injury law firm, held a successful drive to collect menstrual items for those in need, culminating in a Girls' Night event at the office

BIRMINGHAM, AL, May 08, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- To assist with the United Way of Central Alabama's initiative to help combat period poverty across Central Alabama, the law firm of Collins Law, LLC held a drive to collect menstrual products. The firm's initial goal was to collect 4,000 items and ended up collecting over 10,000. The drive ended with a Girls' Night party at the firm's Birmingham office.

Fighting Period Poverty in Central Alabama

The term "period poverty" refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, sexual and reproductive health education, and safe, clean facilities such as toilets and handwashing stations. According to the United Way, nearly one out of three adults and one out of four students struggle to afford period products, and two out of five teens have worn period products for longer than recommended, which can put their health at risk.

To help those affected, the United Way of Central Alabama runs a drive every year during Women's History Month to help combat period poverty across Central Alabama. Donations collected through the drive are assembled into kits and distributed to local schools, shelters, and community agencies across multiple counties, helping ensure individuals can attend school, go to work, and live with dignity.

Girls' Night Celebrates Successful Donation Drive

To assist the United Way's efforts to combat period poverty, the law firm of Collins Law, LLC, held a period product drive to help those in need. As founding attorney April Collins said, she was proud of her community for coming together and smashing expectations.

"Our firm set a goal of collecting 4,000 items, and we're proud to share that we far exceeded that goal, collecting over 10,000 items," Collins said. "This level of support means thousands more essential products will reach women and girls in our community, directly contributing to United Way's broader effort to reduce barriers to health, education, and opportunity."

Collins said that the Girls' Night event was a successful and meaningful end to the drive.

"The Girls' Night event, held at our office as the finale, served as both a celebration and a final push for donations," she said. "It brought together community members for a meaningful and engaging evening, helping raise additional awareness around period poverty while encouraging continued giving and support. A huge thank you to everyone who participated!"
