Brigham and Women's Hospital nurses have been bargaining for more than a year to ensure safe patient care and secure the respect they deserve
BOSTON, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brigham and Women's Hospital MNA Bargaining Committee – nurses elected by their 4,000 colleagues – will meet on Thursday, October 8 with hospital management to negotiate a fair contract and avert their historic indefinite strike planned for October 14.

The Brigham MNA Bargaining Committee and hospital management agreed to meet on Thursday to bargain with less than a week to go before an open-ended strike that 93% of nurses authorized in September.
"Our focus is on ensuring Brigham and Women's Hospital patients receive the world-class care they need and advocating for the professional respect our nurses deserve," said Kelly Morgan, labor and delivery RN, and Chair of the Brigham MNA Bargaining Committee. "We will make every effort to reach a fair contract. Our preference is to avert the strike by negotiating an agreement that meets the needs of our patients and nurses."
Background on Planned Brigham Nurse Strike
Brigham nurses provided the hospital with the legally required 10-day notice for the strike on Friday morning, October 2. If the strike is held, the strike will continue until Brigham nurses reach a fair contract agreement with MGB. This is an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike as Brigham nurses have filed multiple ULPs against the hospital since July. ULP strikes offer greater protection for striking workers, according to the National Labor Relations Board.
- Nurses filed a ULP against BWH for illegally preventing neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses from exercising their federally protected right to participate in the Brigham nurses' strike on July 8, 2026.
- Nurses filed a ULP against BWH for illegally retaliating against nurses for exercising their federally protected right to participate in the July strike by changing their schedules.
- Nurses filed a ULP against BWH for threatening disciplinary action against nurses if they did not remove their union buttons.
- Nurses filed a ULP against BWH for unilaterally changing nurses' job descriptions.
The BWH MNA Bargaining Committee's decision to schedule the strike follows a strike authorization vote on September 24 that was 2,986 to 215. The vote coincided with new information from the state showing that MGB is once again the most profitable hospital system in Massachusetts, with a total margin of $2.3 billion.
