SALINAS, Calif., Aug. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Palma School announces the dedication of the newly renovated Edward M. Dowd Gymnasium, made possible through a $2.5 million gift from the Edward M. Dowd Foundation, the largest single donation in the school's 74-year history.

This transformational gift arrives at a pivotal moment for Palma. Originally founded in 1951 as a coeducational institution, the school transitioned to an all-male enrollment in 1964. Now, with the return to coeducation in 2024, the renovation of the gym represents both a renewal of the campus and a powerful symbol of Palma's evolving identity.

The gift also reflects the values of its namesake, Edward M. Dowd, a self-made man whose life embodied perseverance, service, and generosity. Dowd's philanthropic legacy includes transformative contributions to education, healthcare, and community programs in Monterey and Santa Clara counties.

This milestone is a key part of Palma Rising, the school's $12 million campaign to modernize its athletic fields, construct a new 9,500-square-foot athletic performance center, and expand opportunities for all students.
