Pennsylvania American Water Invests $722 Million to Strengthen Water and Wastewater Service in 2025

Investments help improve reliability, water quality and fire protection for customers across the state
MECHANICSBURG, Pa., April 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania American Water announced today it invested more than $722 million in 2025 to improve water and wastewater systems serving customers in 38 counties and 436 communities across Pennsylvania. Of the total investment, approximately $638 million supported water system improvements and $84 million was invested in wastewater systems.
"Providing safe, clean and reliable water and wastewater service means investing in our systems every year," said Pennsylvania American Water President Justin Ladner. "These upgrades help reduce service interruptions, modernize aging pipes and facilities and help ensure our systems remain dependable for the families and businesses we serve – and for decades to come."
Ladner added that in addition to helping the company continue to provide safe, clean, reliable service for customers, this level of investment generated more than 7,220 jobs throughout the economy.
Pennsylvania American Water made upgrades and improvements to the company's water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, tanks, pump stations, pipes, fire hydrants and metering equipment. Highlights from 2025 include:
- Water Mains: $267.9 million to install almost 93 miles of water main.
- Wastewater Mains: $26.6 million to install more than 16 miles of wastewater main.
- Tanks: $18.5 million to rehabilitate seven water storage tanks and build five new ones. Read more here.
- Fire Hydrants and Valves: $15.7 million to install 574 fire hydrants and 2,853 valves.
- Meters: $37.2 million to upgrade meter technology, including $2.5 million to install 3,162 new meters and $34.6 million to replace 45,236 existing meters.
- Service Lines: $46.1 million to install more than 10,000 services.
