STATEMENT - Federal budget makes positive steps, but long-term plan for health care still lacking: Canada's doctors

OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 5, 2026 /CNW/ -- Canada's doctors are encouraged by health initiatives announced in today's federal Budget, but a sustainable, long-term plan for keeping Canadians healthy is still urgently needed.
The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has advocated for the Canada Caregiver Credit to be fully refundable for many years, and we're pleased that many Canadians will benefit from this change.
We also welcome the investment in Indigenous and women's health, and reforms must still be made to ensure the benefits are accessible to all who need them.
The financial commitment to a new digital regulator to enforce the Safe Social Media Act (Bill C-34) is encouraging. We need to move quickly to keep our kids safe when the bill becomes law.
Despite these positive steps, we still lack a long-term, sustainable plan to fund health care. There must be financial certainty for our health system to improve access to care, health outcomes for patients and the working conditions of doctors.
A strong Canada and our national destiny depend on healthy Canadians.
